GET INVOLVED
Volunteers are always needed, and there are a ton of ways to get involved.
-
Help shop!
-
While we appreciate donations, we also understand that not everyone can afford to stock the pantry. We also rely highly on shoppers that will do a store run for reimbursement (Costco, Sams Club, etc.)
-
-
Unboxers!
-
Another option is shipping goods to your own house & unboxing and brining to the pantry.
-
-
Open Hours!
-
We ALWAYS need help during pantry hours Tuesday's from 4-6, and Fridays between 10 AM and 1 PM.

ABOUT
In the early 1980's a few members of the Presbyterian Church began delivering food items to those in need around the island. Over the years we have grown into a local pantry supporting the food insure on Shelter Island. In 2025 we officially became an independent 501(c)3.
We are currently open Tuesdays 4-6pm, Fridays 10 am to 1pm.

PROGRAMMING
In addition to our weekly pantry services, around the holidays we run programs to ensure every family can be well fed.
The school's National Honor Society hosts the annual Souper Bowl of Caring every February.
Donations gathered by the students total from 300 to 1,000 items; at the end of the campaign, the students help to stock the pantry shelves.
At Thanksgiving, the Food Pantry and the All-Faith Youth Group sponsor "Everything but the Turkey" Student volunteers assemble and distribute more than 30 Thanksgiving dinners that don't include the turkey, but include everything families need for the feast.

HISTORY
The Shelter Island Food Pantry - although a separate entity from the Presbyterian Church- is housed in and offers its services at the church. Led by Carrie Wood, volunteers enable Islanders who have food insecurity to get what they need without questions.
During the summer months, the Food Pantry receives special donations of fresh vegetables from Sylvester Manor. Throughout the year, donations made by individuals, groups and churches fund the purchase of staples and fresh food. The Food Pantry is open two days a week, on Tuesdays from 4 to 6pm, and Fridays from 10am to1pm.
