In the early 1980s, a few members of the Presbyterian Church began delivering food to neighbors in need across Shelter Island. Over the years, these small acts of generosity grew into a community pantry supporting food security for residents across the island.
In 2025, we officially became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization!
We are currently open Tuesdays 4-6pm, and Fridays 10 am to 1pm.

Volunteers are always needed, and there are many ways to contribute — from stocking shelves and assisting during open hours, to helping with deliveries, outreach, and fundraising. Every act of service makes a meaningful difference!

Help Shop!
-
While we appreciate donations, we also understand that not everyone can afford to stock the pantry. We also rely highly on shoppers that will do a store run for reimbursement (Costco, Sams Club, etc.)
-
-
Help Unbox!
-
Another option is shipping goods to your own house & unboxing and brining to the pantry.

We ALWAYS need help during pantry hours Tuesday's from 4-6, and Fridays between 10 AM and 1 PM.

Programming
Beyond our weekly pantry hours, we coordinate special initiatives during the holidays to make sure every family on Shelter Island can celebrate with a full table.
-
Souper Bowl of Caring (February): Each year, the Shelter Island School’s National Honor Society organizes this event, gathering between 300 and 1,000 food items. At the end of the campaign, students bring the donations to the Pantry and help stock the shelves.
-
Everything but the Turkey (Thanksgiving): In partnership with the All-Faith Youth Group, students and volunteers assemble and distribute more than 30 Thanksgiving dinners. While families provide their own turkey, the Pantry supplies all the side dishes and essentials needed for a complete holiday meal.
Help us, help others.
The pantry relies on help from the Shelter Island community. Together we can insure no one on the island is hungry.
